Back in Mass

Hello everyone, On Saturday we left California and returned to Boston. I'm glad that I'm back home but I want go back to the warm weather in California. The plane ride back to Boston felt a lot faster when we left Boston. The Silicon Valley trip was very busy and a lot of fun. All the companies that we visited had a different atmosphere from regular working setting. The people that worked in these companies was able to do things more freely as long as they got there work done. Most of these companies showed that communication is strong factor because asking the right questions can help you learn and grow when working in these companies. One of my favorite companies that I visited was Facebook because you can work freely there as long as you got the work done. Also, I liked that you could work at another position if you aren't happy or not being challenged enough in the position you work for in Facebook. To know more about the companies that I visited you can check my other blogs about the trip. I'm glad I was I given this opportunity to go on this trip because I was able to take what I learned there when applying for jobs.

6th Day(Last Day)

Hello everyone, so this is it the last day of visiting companies in Silicon Valley. The companies that we visited was Aruba Networks, Apple, we also visited the Computer history Museum. First company we visited was Aruba  Networks was able to ask question to two software engineers. One of the things they talked about was that communication was challenge when they joined and was able to improve on it. After the Q&A we got a tour of the build and how everything worked in Aruba network. They are a very mobile friendly company they use their mobile devices to book a rooms for meetings, connect to TV wirelessly by using airdrop, they can also sign in guest as well. In there app they have map of building and tells you what part of the building you are in. Another feature they use is that you can share your location employees that you are friends with and can tell you where they are. They have also created map for the inside of Levi Stadium. The next stop was Apple there was a lot that we couldn't share on that trip because Apple keeps most of there stuff a secret. one of the presentations we got to see was about the new building that Apple is creating that finishes in April. We weren't able to visit the building because they were still working on it an interesting fact is that it will be bigger than the Pentagon. One of the things I got to take away from Apple is that they have created couple of Ibooks that teaches you how to code. I've been able to look through it and it seem very helpful to anyone that wants to learn how to code. Lastly, we visited the Computer History Museum yes the same museum that used to be in Boston they decided to move it to California because that's where technology started. One of the cool things I did at the museum was playing leap frog but you had to create the demands the frog to do to eat the bugs. It kind of reminded me working on the scribbler robot in programming logic. Today was nice day to end are Silicon Valley journey and was glad to experience everything California.

5th day

Hello everyone, this was a very eventful day because we went to San Francisco that day. The company's that we visited that day were Square, Spoke, and Moovweb. Driving in San Francisco was tough because we had twelve person van driving through traffic to find a parking spot. The first company we visited Square is a credit card processing application company. What I found interesting at Square was one of the interviewing process they use fro people with an IT background is that they give you sample problem of code that you can fix. The next company Spoke that is a startup that's been around under a year. Spoke is a help desk platform that give information to customers on a certain question and Spoke would tell you who would have that information or it would send you somewhere that has the information you need. the last company we visited was Moovweb another startup. Moovweb helped other companies websites and helping them transition to a mobile devices. After visiting all of the companies we were able to have some free time in San Francisco. We were dropped off by Fishermans Wharf we walked around the docks and check out the scenery. The cool site I saw was probably Alcatraz I didn't think it would be that close. After walking through Fishermans Wharf some of us took a Lyft to Haight Ashberry. it was a interesting place a lot of people and places to see. We stopped at pizza place and grabbed a couple slices which was really good. Then we went to Twin Peeks that gave a us a beautiful 360 view of the San Francisco area. After that we stopped by a food truck area in Mission St. and got something to eat we also talked to someone that worked at one of the food trucks. She used to work at Square and she was also from Massachusetts. Another thing I got to do was drive a dasharound it a vehicle that looks like an animal I got to drive the horse was called Ed. We then left San Francisco two Lyft drivers wouldn't take us back to Palo Alto because it was to far but the third driver was able to take us back. it was a very interesting day but all in all it was good day.

4th day

Hey everyone, today was a good day we visited Lockheed and Martin, NASA visitor center, and hacker dojo. Lockheed and Martin was really cool because we got to check out there missile defense program called THAAD(terminal high altitude area defense). We got to see a video of how the missile works and at the end of the video we got a cool high ranking coin. Then we went to the solar panel area for Lockheed and got a tour of their facility. We then end the tour of Lockheed and Martin by talking about the business and the technology about the company and we also talked about the cyber security. At the NASA research center we only got to go to the visitor center due to the flooding before we got to California so we just looked around. The last place we went to was hacker dojo and just toured around a bit the thing I thought was cool was 3D printer was in use. For dinner we went to the crepevine and had dinner with one of the Facebook workers and wales around the area. All in all it was a good night.

The 3rd day

Hey everyone, today was another great day. This day was a much longer day then yesterday because we had a lot of things planned today. The first stop was at a start up company called progressly they had two offices close to each other but it was good walk to get to their second office. When we got their they all greeted us by shaking their hands and introducing  themselves and handing business cards to connect with them. there was about 20 people in each office they also have another location in Mexico. Progessly has worked a lot with the big oil companies by using a platform that connects with employees. The Next company that we visited was Facebook. the inside of the campus looked like a small town it had a lot of food places, a bike shop, a swag store, a bar, and ect. The only thing that was missing was a place to sleep. We toured around their for a bit and asked any questions we had. We went to a BBQ place in the middle of the Facebook campus and it was really good BBQ and we also got some ice cream after. we then continued our tour by visiting the work places inside the building. We also learned that Mark Zuckerberg would take time out of his day and do a Q&A for the workers on a jumbo torn. They also had hackathons at a certain area of the campus. The last company we visited was Google. We took a tour around the campus and asked any questions we had and we also learned from both Facebook and Google give the freedom to let their employees work from anywhere and create their own schedule just as long as they complete the work that they need to do. At the end of the day we had dinner with Alumni from Curry College and got to talk to them about their work experiences after they graduated from Curry College.

The 2nd day

Hello everyone, Today was a great day. I got my much need rest after our six hour flight to California. I had nice breakfast to Start the day. We then went to the HP garage is the birthplace of Silicon Valley and where HP started. The first Company we went to was Survey Monkey. We met a nice women that worked in HR for Survey Monkey she was the one that helped planned everything for our visit. We got to talked to recent college graduates that all went to school in the east coast. They talked about their work and internship experiences. What I found interesting was the work environment because they talked about how you go to someone in another department if you had question about anything and they would be happy to help you. They also talked about how there are a lot of smart people in Survey Monkey but they don't compete with each other to see who is the smartest they use their intelligence to help their fellow co-workers. We also got to have a nice lunch their and then we toured building and got see, some offices, a gaming area, a gym, a place to bring your kids, and ect. During the end of our tour most of us met another worker their and when left we found out he was the CEO of Survey Monkey. The next we place went to was the Intel Museum and our tour guide gave  us a lot of information about Intel's processors. The last place we visited was Microsoft their I got to try the HoloLens. The HoloLens looks like a pair of glass that allows you to see holograms. when using the HoloLens you can still see the area and surroundings that are around you. At the end of the day me and a couple people went to a food truck across the street and got something to eat and finished the day by going swimming.

1st Day

The first was a long and tiring day because we were on a plane for 6 hours to a straight flight Boston to San Francisco.  When we arrived to are destination we took a van to our hotel in Palo Alto called Dinah's Garden. For food me and couple people got Jersey Mike's subs which was really good and the distance was about 15 minute walk. The people at Jersey Mike's was very nice when speaking to them. After I went into the pool for a little bit and just relax. Then some of use went to In and Out Burger also known as the "west coast Five Guys" finishing the day. I can't wait to start visiting the companies and the rest of the area during this trip.

Silicon Valley American Exress

The Movie talked a lot about the 8 scientist that used to work with William Shockley. Also talked about the journey about creating there own company. In 1947 William Shockley created the transmitter. With aid of a antenna the Transmitter generates a radio frequency. This also lead to the transmitter radio which became the most popular  communication device. When Shockley started his company he want find brand new ideas from the minds of younger scientists. But as the years went on Shockley's ego got the better of him and would get angry at the other scientist when things didn't go his way. So * scientist decided to create there own company and they got there help from Sherman Fairchild the largest stock owner for IBM. The entrepreneur Scientist gave 1.3 million dollars for the 8 scientist to start there new company. They were hired by the Air Force to create a navigation system. The 8 scientists later in the years went off to work for other companies and find new experience.
